Common Conditions where Acupuncture for Female Infertility Can Help

1, Amenorrhea for women

This is the absence of a menstrual period for women who are of reproductive age. Our acupuncture treatments can help when your cycles do not return after you have stopped using the contraceptive pill. Acupuncture can also help with loss of body weight and over exercise as well as the condition known as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). We will also help you with dietary changes and supplements to bring your hormones back into balance.

2, Decreased Ovarian Reserve

This happens naturally as a woman ages, sometimes AMH levels can fall prematurely. Whilst acupuncture cannot increase these levels, we often use acupuncture to help women with lower ovarian reserve to achieve pregnancy.

3, Endometriosis

This condition is not always detected until women seek help after having difficulty trying to conceive. Often endometriosis is a painful condition with prolonged heavy bleeding. Acupuncture can be used to help increase blood flow to the uterus and help to clear inflammation which can increase the ability to conceive.

4, Irregular Menstrual Cycle

Having a regular menstrual cycle is a key factor to fertility. Healthy menstrual cycles with a good regular flow of blood without pain and prolonged bleeding is a good sign that your body is working properly. Sometimes the hormones can become out of balance. This can be due to high levels of stress, diet restriction or after stopping contraception. Acupuncture can help to regulate the hormones and rebalance your menstrual cycle.

5, Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome

This is a common condition that affects the function of a woman’s ovaries. Irregular periods, excess androgen causing increased body and facial hair, and Polycystic Ovaries. The ovaries can become enlarged and contain numerous fluid-filled sacs (follicles) which surround the eggs. We have helped ladies successfully treat PCOS with acupuncture. They have in many cases achieved pregnancy both naturally and with assisted reproduction such as Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF). Dietary and exercise along with lifestyle changes are also essential for this condition.

6, Uterine Fibroids

Depending on the size and type of fibroid, acupuncture may help to manage the symptoms of the fibroid including heavy bleeding, pain and stress which in turn can help to improve fertility.

7, Recurrent miscarriage

There are numerous causes of recurrent miscarriage. We recommend Acupuncture prior to IVF/ assisted reproduction as well as if trying to conceive naturally. This enables the acupuncturist to build a treatment plan tailor-made for you. It is recommended that you continue Acupuncture during your pregnancy to allow for the continuous benefits of acupuncture to aid your pregnancy.

8, Autoimmune Disorders and Fertility

The immune system works with all parts of your body to protect your body against attack. When the body triggers Natural Killers (NK) cells to be sent to attack parts of your reproductive system, this can occur in some people with Immunological disorders.. This can happen for a number of complex reasons. This can lead to problems such as recurrent miscarriages, IVF failure, poor egg production from stimulated IVF as well as abnormal foetal growth. Acupuncture along with dietary and lifestyle changes can be used to promote a healthy immune system giving you an increased chance of a healthy pregnancy.

9, Thyroid disorders that Affect Fertility

The thyroid is an endocrine-producing gland that plays a vital role in controlling the hormones around your body. This can have a significant impact on your reproductive system. A condition we are seeing increasingly in our clinic, in particular hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid. This can cause anovulation (ovaries do not release an oocyte during the menstrual cycle). We have successfully guided ladies to their GP for thyroid function tests to check how their thyroid is functioning. To help restore ovulation, sometimes medication is needed to help address this issue. Acupuncture can then be used to help promote ovulation and maintain a successful pregnancy.

10, Luteal Phase Defect

This is when the menstrual cycle occurs after ovulation and before a period begins. The luteal phase defect is when there is a problem with the cycle such as shorter than 10 days. This can affect the chances of conception since the hormone progesterone can be at a lower level for a shorter period of time. Acupuncture may help to enhance the ovarian function and help to improve progesterone levels and also increase the length of the luteal phase.

Why Acupuncture Treatment Packages are Beneficial

You may have realised that with the complicated issues for infertility, one treatment session is not enough to help your body prepare for pregnancy or IVF treatment. Therefore, we have created various treatment packages that are designed to give you the optimum benefit whilst saving on cost.
